In this episode of Rick and Elaine Discuss the Bible, we stepped into one of the strangest and most fascinating moments in all of Scripture: Matthew 27 and the mysterious raising of the saints. What exactly was Matthew showing us when he said tombs were opened and many holy ones appeared after Christ’s resurrection? Were literal dead bodies walking around Jerusalem, or was Matthew revealing something deeper about the moment the old world cracked open and the new creation began? We worked slowly through Matthew, Mark, and Luke, noticing what Matthew includes that the others do not, and asking why. That led us into a rich discussion about the torn veil, the shaking earth, split rocks, opened graves, and what all of it might mean in light of Christ’s death, resurrection, and the coming life of the Spirit.
