Bridging the Gap - S1E1 - Interview with Margaret McGrath
One of the latest NDIS/Quality and Safeguards decisions that has hit the sector hard is to impose compulsory registration on all Support Coordinators without making any provision for smaller providers who cannot afford the cost, intrusiveness and time - not to mention red tape and battling with traditionally awful government websites. While I support registration because I support accountability, prior to the "review" into the registration process, we were told the process itself would be smoother, more affordable and less disruptive. Unfortunately, this was not the case. When I tried to get some answers on this, I was ghosted by the department. As a result of the new rules, we have lost many high quality, experienced, ethical and well trained Support Coordinators, some of who have lost more than their livelihoods over this. Other one person operators have taken a different path and have sought to either give up their business and find an employer in the sector or they have done what we are talking about in our first season of four interviews, and have looked into contracting to a registered provider. Today we talk to Margaret McGrath from Collabor8 Supports about how she expertly manages her business and how she has helped numerous providers remain in the sector.
