A Mother’s Day Comfort, Grief With Hope In Christ
Bible Readings: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; John 19:17–27
Summary: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 encourages Christians to
grieve, but with hope grounded in Christ. The passage
acknowledges that death is a painful enemy caused by sin and
assures us that Jesus has already defeated it by sharing in our
sorrow, dying, and rising again. Paul wrote to a young church in
Thessalonica that was worried about believers who had died
before Christ’s return. His goal wasn’t to tell them not to cry, but
to help them link their grief to God’s promises. Christian hope is a
deep confidence rooted in Jesus’ real, physical resurrection.
