A new UCLA report, Unequal Ground, reveals that Black Californians experienced the largest increase in unemployment of any racial group between 2024 and 2025. It also found rising underemployment, a sharp increase in unemployment among Black women—including college graduates—and a growing number of people who are neither working nor enrolled in school.
