Volkswagen is considering what could be the biggest restructuring overhaul in the company's history, driven by increasing competitive pressure from Chinese rivals.

The proposed overhaul involves up to 100,000 job cuts and the potential closure of four German factories: Hanover, Zwickau, Emden, and Audi's Neckarsulm site. Shutting down these specific facilities would put over 45,000 jobs at risk, adding to the 50,000 job cuts that Volkswagen already agreed upon with unions in late 2024.
