This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format.
Deuteronomy 11:1 - 13:18
- Moses calls Israel to love and obey God for blessings of rain and prosperity in the land, while warning against turning to other gods and the consequences of curses.
- He instructs to destroy places of false worship and warns against false prophets or anyone enticing idolatry, commanding their removal to preserve purity.
Luke 14:12 - 35
- Jesus instructs hosts to invite the poor and disabled to banquets for heavenly reward rather than expecting repayment from the rich.
- He teaches the cost of discipleship through parables of a tower and a king going to war, ending with the call to renounce all and be like salt that retains its flavor.
