Who should write your law school letters of recommendation, and when should you ask?

In Episode 11, Ben Parker and Autumn Lockett explain why letters can hold up an otherwise finished application and why applicants should contact recommenders early. They discuss how to ask someone for a strong letter and why a professor or supervisor who knows your work can offer more than a famous contact writing a form letter.

Autumn shares what makes a letter useful to an admissions reader: concrete examples, credible praise, and a perspective that adds to the rest of the application. She and Ben consider academic and professional recommenders, ways to show recent academic growth after a lower undergraduate GPA, and letters that can speak to an applicant’s experience as an athlete or service member. They also explain why having an extra letter ready can help if a school invites more information during a waitlist.

You will learn how to choose recommenders, give them a resume and specific talking points, and avoid generic or late letters that weaken or delay your application.
