Passages: Luke 10:1-24; Luke 10:25-37; Luke 10:38-11:13; Luke 11:14-36
Jesus appoints seventy more disciples and sends them out two by two ahead of him, then rejoices when they return with news that even demons submitted to them in his name. A lawyer stands up to test him, asking what he must do to inherit eternal life, and Jesus answers with the story of a Samaritan who stopped to help a wounded stranger when a priest and a Levite had already passed by. In a village along the way, Mary sits at Jesus' feet listening while her sister Martha grows anxious over the work of hosting him, and his disciples ask him to teach them to pray. When Jesus casts out a demon from a man who could not speak, some in the crowd accuse him of doing it by the power of Beelzebub, and he answers with a warning about a kingdom divided against itself.
