Come, See a Man

John 3:25–4:54; Matthew 4:12–25; 8:1–4, 14–17; 9:1–8

A dispute over purification sends John's disciples to him one last time, and he points to Jesus again before stepping off the stage of this story. Word reaches Jesus that John has been arrested, and he leaves Judea for Galilee, resting at a well in Samaria along the way, where a woman he's never met recognizes him as the Christ. Back in Galilee, a royal official begs him to heal his dying son, and Jesus settles in Capernaum, calling two pairs of fishermen brothers away from their nets. He heals Peter's mother-in-law of a fever, cleanses a leper with a touch, and heals a paralyzed man lowered through a roof, his fame spreading through the whole region.
