Mark 10:1–31; John 11:1–57
In Perea, Jesus is tested on divorce, blesses the children brought to him despite his disciples' objections, and watches a rich young man walk away sorrowful rather than sell everything he owns. Then word arrives that Lazarus, a dear friend in Bethany, is deathly ill. Jesus waits two full days before setting out — and by the time he arrives, Lazarus has been in the tomb four days already. Martha meets him on the road with grief and faith tangled together, Mary falls at his feet in tears, and Jesus himself weeps. Then, standing before a sealed tomb, he calls a dead man by name — and Lazarus walks out, still wrapped in his grave clothes.
