A Presence Driven Witness | Keith Cross

What does it mean to be a presence-driven witness? In this message, Pastor Keith Cross looks at Numbers 14 and Exodus 33 and the difference between a performance-driven church and a presence-driven church. A performance-driven church asks what it can get from God. A presence-driven church knows it cannot move without God. As a counter-cultural, presence-driven people, we are called to: • Prioritize the Maker over the Marketable by valuing God above what He can provide. • Pursue Dependence over Independence by cultivating an unyielding posture of dependence on God. • Pause for Guidance over Goals by refusing to move ahead of God’s presence. Moses understood that God’s presence was what distinguished His people. “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” The question is whether we are treating God as an afterthought or honoring Him as our main thought.

Sometimes the question isn’t just, “How do I get out of this storm?” It’s, “What is God doing in the middle of it?” When you learn to read the radar, you stop fighting the wind and start cooperating with God.

In Mark 6:45–53, the disciples were exactly where Jesus told them to be, yet they found themselves in the middle of the sea, fighting against the wind and struggling to move forward. Jesus saw them in the storm and came to them. This message reminds us that the storm does not always mean we are out of God’s will. Sometimes God is teaching us to trust Him when we cannot see what He is doing.
