Episode 5 Crew Gir

In Episode 5, Butterfly and I discuss the new show Crew Girl and unpack the themes and messages therein, and they were pretty gross overall. We talk about how everyone in the show leads with their financial portfolio, while superficiality and materialism rule the day. Fraud is only bad if you get caught in this show, but the characters are too wooden to even loathe them enough to make it interesting. 90210 rewarmed, the plot and characters show themselves to be rivalrous and contentious enough to ultimately not matter. We talk about how race is used to normalize demographic change that has taken hold in this country over the past few decades, and we get into glass ceilings being broken that seem to be meaningless to anyone except the elites. Overall, we both felt like the show was shallow and lame, but join us as we have fun panning it!!

Episode 4 Sirens 3-5

In Episode 4, Butterfly and I discuss Sirens in its totality, this time after watching Episodes 3–5 and concluding the series. We get into the various themes of the show, mainly elitism and what people are willing to become in order to be let into the elite cult. We discuss lovelessness, poverty, opportunism, superficiality, materialism, and the idea that the elites love people who will do anything to be welcomed into the Culture Club. We also talk about the beautiful scenery, smart writing, and how the story develops as the series comes to a close. Butterfly and I both gave Sirens an A for how entertaining and thought-provoking it ultimately was. At its core, the series begs the question: Where does true fulfillment lie, and what would you do to become one of the elite?

Episode 3 Sirens 1 and 2

In Episode 3, Butterfly and I discuss the Netflix series Sirens and explore the messaging beneath the surface. We delve into themes surrounding class and race, tattoos, escapism, envy, betrayal, and cults. We also examine the allure of elite decadence and how, for some, the desire to be part of that world can become powerful enough to make them willing to do almost anything to belong. Come with us as we explore the hidden meanings, symbolism, and messaging in the first couple of episodes of Sirens.

Episode 2 Those Who Wish Me Dead

In this episode, we take on the inferno that is Those Who Wish Me Dead—a title we felt was maybe a little over the top, but what do we know? We unpack the significance of fire, dig into some of the film’s themes, and explore how, overall, the movie kinda seems to say: Are you traumatized? Hang in there. You’ll be toast soon anyway. Welcome to Unread Your Show—like a book club for TV and movies.
