#39 The Thing You Cannot Not Do Is the Only Thing That Will Not Deceive You

You sit down to work.

Before anything happens, a thought appears: 'Will they like this?'

That thought is not yours. It is the world's. The world has no place in this room. Only you and the thing that needs to come out.

If you shape it for them, it will not be what it needed to be. If you let it come out because it must, it will find its way.

The difference between good work and necessary work is whether you can sit still long enough for the latter to arrive.
