Habits
di Robert Wight & Sam Westcott
In this episode, Sam and I examine James Clear's Book Atomic Habits and discuss the importance of building good habits in our own lives and the benefits of understanding behavior change on a physiological and psychological level. James Clear's book is a New York Times Bestseller and it has had a tremendous impact on both of our lives. Sam and I adopted some of the practices in this book and in this podcast we discuss habits in principal and in practice.
Have you ever been through a painful experience that in time was the ostensible genesis of sustained pleasure? Or conversely, have you ever experienced great joy and pleasure, with or without substance, that later led to intense pain? I know I have. Trying to get to the bottom of this miraculous truth is a lot of fun, and the content available online and in books on this very matter is substantial. After reading Dr. Anna Lembke's book Dopamine Nation and listening to Dr. Andrew Huberman's discussions on the neurotransmitter dopamine, I discuss with my friend, author, and writing coach @samwwestcott, the benefits of having this knowledge and the wonderful significance of our mesolimbic pathway, otherwise known as our lizard brain. Come and check us out on YouTube for our full conversation and learn how these two Strange b'ys interpret the reward pathway and meaning in our own lives.
