John Quincy Adams, the sixth President of the United States, was born on July 11, 1767, and devoted nearly his entire life to public service. The son of President John Adams, he served as a diplomat, senator, secretary of state, president, and later as a congressman, making him the only former U.S. president to serve in Congress after leaving office. Adams strongly opposed slavery, defended the rights of the enslaved in the famous Amistad case, and worked tirelessly to preserve liberty and justice. Remembered for his integrity and lifelong commitment to duty, he believed that doing what is right matters more than achieving immediate success.
