How To Humanize Health Care || Tips To Get Started

Humanizing health care transforms access to it, the experience of it and our overall outcomes. Health care is about helping people and empathy has to be at the foundation of it. Empathy must exist to make it convenient, equitable, affordable, personable and goals attainable. Implicit bias is a subtle influence in health care that runs deep influencing access, experience and outcomes. To be better providers and to really do no harm, we must incorporate in our teachings, our learning and our experiences ways to dismantle systemic structures that prevents us from wholeheartedly carrying out our Hippocratic oath of do no harm. Tune in to engage in this enlightening and impactful conversation with Dr. Todd Davenport, DPT, MPH, OCS. The AlexAndMo releases new episodes on Youtube weekly on Tuesday at 8pm EST/5pm PST. How will CMS Proposed Cut Adversely Affect Home Health Care?

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released this past Friday a proposed 4.2% cut in payment for home health care in 2023. Alex and Mo both own home health businesses and will pivot today from our usual live guest broadcast to discuss this pressing release. With inflation rising, cost of gas for transportation also increasing, labor costs and cost of living skyrocketing, this proposal could not come at a more inconvenient time. We saw massive job loss when PDGM was introduced by home health agencies and another will probably be on the horizon as home health agencies will struggle to maintain or even grow their profit margin with employee demands for increased wages and benefits versus cuts in reimbursement by its largest payer- CMS. Becoming A More Mindful Clinician with Dr. Mica Mitchell, DPT

Be present, be open-minded, be compassionate, be intentional... It is imperative that we bring mindfulness to healthcare as most of our daily duties become mundane but we are always interacting with other humans and being mindful brings humanity to our work. Many healthcare workers are resilient and simply coping with the demands of work and life. Being mindful also takes a lot of focus and hard work in our already crowded daily lives but with 47% of physicians reporting one sign of burnout, 30% of nurses report compassion fatigue, taking a few minutes being mindful every day allows you to be better equipped to navigate your professional responsibilities and reduce the risk of burnout. Dr. Mitchell will share tips on how to be a more mindful leader and clinician so tune in tonight 8pm EST. The AlexAndMo releases new episodes on Youtube weekly on Tuesday at 8pm EST. How To Humanize Diversity, Equity And Inclusion | APTA of Maryland

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has become the conversational 3rd rail in healthcare. Some say politics has no role in healthcare, but equity is a core human need. It is critical to our own health because chronic stress from lack or absence of equity leads to chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation then predisposes us to some of the leading causes of early death and lower life expectancy such as cancer and heart diseases. So it is not political, it is a determinant of our health. The APTA of Maryland Board Of Directors voted to create a DEI committee and since its creation, chair Dr. Mike Ukoha, DPT and committee members have been heavily invested in the Maryland communities. Over the past year, the group has done Overdose Awareness Day, National Survey for Minority Physical Therapists, Live and Grow Networking, Mentorship hosting Monthly Mentor Nights and High School Tours and Presentations. So how do we really get serious about diversity, equity, inclusion? We have to care about society enough to effectively do something to transform it, make it better than how we met it. This committee has been doing the work, engaging members and businesses. The AlexAndMo releases new episodes on Youtube weekly on Tuesday at 8pm EST.
