Note sull'episodio
In Episode 3 of The 12:2 Podcast, we take an in-depth look at the Lindsay Clancy case — one of the most heartbreaking and complicated criminal cases in recent years. The case captured national attention not only because of the deaths of Lindsay’s three young children, but because of the questions surrounding her mental state, postpartum psychosis, medication, and whether someone experiencing a severe psychiatric episode can be held criminally responsible for their actions.
We walk through the events leading up to the deaths, Lindsay’s reported mental health struggles, the role medication and postpartum mental illness played in the defense, and the evidence presented throughout the trial. We also discuss the prosecution’s case, the defense’s arguments, the jury’s deliberations, and the legal questions surrounding the outcome.
But beyond the courtroom, this case forces us to confront some incredibly difficult questions. What happens when a mother experiences a mental health crisis that no one fully understands? How should we distinguish between illness and criminal responsibility? What role should doctors, medications, family members, and the justice system play when warning signs are present? And how do we talk about these issues without minimizing the lives that were lost?
As always, we're going beyond the headlines to look at the facts, the unanswered questions, the competing perspectives, and the difficult gray areas surrounding the case — while approaching an incredibly tragic story with honesty, compassion, and respect for the victims and everyone affected.
