The Gospel: From Familiar to Formed

This message addresses the danger of becoming too familiar with the gospel—when something once life-changing becomes something we simply “know” but no longer feel. Familiarity can form us, or it can numb us.

It refocuses on who God truly is—holy, set apart, and beyond comparison (Isaiah 6). When we lose sight of His holiness, we minimize our sin, and the gospel begins to feel unnecessary.

Scripture reminds us that we are not just flawed—we are spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1–3). And dead people don’t need advice; they need resurrection.

Through the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9–14), we see the difference between self-improvement and true surrender. The gospel is not a life upgrade—it’s the victorious announcement of what Jesus has already done.
