In February 1978, Jack Madruga, Bill Sterling, Ted Weiher, Gary Mathias, and Jackie Huett drove from Yuba County to Chico, California, for a basketball game and never returned home. Their car was found abandoned on a snowy mountain road in Plumas National Forest, far from the route back. Months later, four of the men were found dead along a long route through the snow and near a Forest Service trailer where Ted Weiher appeared to have survived for weeks. Gary Mathias was never found.
