The Most Important Lesson I’m Teaching My Kids

We teach our kids how to tie their shoes, say “please,” drive a car, and maybe even how to fish — but how often do we teach them how to love themselves? In this episode, I’m opening up about why I believe self-love is one of the most important (and overlooked) lessons we can pass on to our kids. This isn’t a one-time talk — it’s a lifelong practice. From building confidence through responsibility to helping them handle failure with compassion, I’m sharing real ways we can model and nurture self-love in our children… and ourselves. If you’ve ever wondered how to raise confident, grounded kids in a world full of pressure and comparison — this one’s for you. ✨ What You’ll Hear: Why self-love is a foundational life skill How everyday moments shape how kids see themselves The role of failure, frustration, and grace in the learning process Why confidence and responsibility go hand-in-hand How your own self-talk influences your child’s self-image 💬 Favorite Quote: "Loving yourself doesn’t mean you’re perfect. It means you’re kind to yourself, even when you mess up — and our kids need to see that in action."

Small habits and change

In today’s episode, I’m sharing how small habits—like making the bed or washing my face—have created powerful, lasting change in my life. It didn’t start with a massive transformation or rigid schedule. It started with one habit that gave me momentum… and the confidence to keep going. If you’re craving more consistency, structure, or self-trust in your life—but feel overwhelmed by where to begin—this episode is your gentle, no-pressure guide to start small. ✨ In this episode, I talk about: How making the bed jumpstarted my journey toward consistency The shift that happened when I started treating washing my face like brushing my teeth Why small habits build big self-trust How excuses show up—and how I learned to quiet them The ripple effect of small wins in your parenting, business, and daily mindset Real examples of habits that ground me on even the busiest days 💭 Gentle Reminder: You don’t need to change everything. Just start with one thing. Small habits won’t change your life overnight—but they’ll change your direction. And that direction is everything.

Boundaries are for me

Boundaries Aren’t Walls—They’re Doors: Why Saying No is an Act of Self-Respect 📌 Episode Description: In this episode of The Photographer’s Couch, I’m diving into a topic that’s been showing up in my own life lately—boundaries. Not the kind that shut people out, but the kind that help you protect your energy, your peace, and your purpose. If you’ve ever felt guilty for saying no, afraid to disappoint people, or unsure where your needs fit into the picture, this one’s for you. I’m sharing why boundaries are not about others—they’re about you, and how setting them helps you show up more fully in the spaces that matter most. ✨ What You’ll Hear in This Episode: What boundaries really are (and what they’re not) Why boundaries often feel hard—especially for people-pleasers and helpers How boundaries protect your time, energy, and creativity Real-life boundaries I’ve set in my photography business and personal life A mindset shift that helped me stop apologizing for my limits A gentle reminder that boundaries don’t push people away—they bring the right ones closer 💭 Favorite Reminder: “Boundaries don’t make you cold. They make you clear. They’re not walls—they’re doors.”

Saying no so yes is more powerful

In today’s episode of The Photographer’s Couch, I’m sharing a personal reminder I come back to often—especially during the summer and busy seasons of life and business: saying no is what gives your yes its power. If you’ve ever felt the pressure to say yes to everything—every session, every invitation, every opportunity—this episode is for you. I talk about how I’ve learned (and am still learning) to say no without guilt, and how that simple shift allows me to stay aligned with my goals, protect my energy, and show up more fully in the things that truly matter. ✨ In this episode, I share: Why I used to say yes to everything (and how that drained me) The mindset shift that helped me create boundaries in life and business Real-life examples of when saying no actually served my clients better Two reminders I keep at my desk to guide my decisions How to reframe “no” as a decision rooted in purpose—not avoidance 📍 Gentle Reminder: You can do it—but should you? And if you say yes, what are you saying no to? This episode is your permission to be intentional. To stop overcommitting. And to give your most meaningful yes the space it deserves.

Setting up your business for success during the summer

Fall is one of the busiest—and most profitable—times of the year for photographers. But the truth is, the success of your fall season starts now. Interview with Maxden Part 2

Thanks for coming back to part 2 with my interview with my son Maxden.

Finding Joy

n this episode of The Photographer’s Couch, I’m opening up about something I think so many of us quietly wrestle with—how to find joy in the everyday moments, especially when those moments don’t always feel meaningful in the moment. As a mom, a creative, and someone who’s constantly juggling life and business, I often catch myself struggling to connect when the activity isn’t something I personally enjoy (hello, Minecraft and endless YouTube videos 🙃). But I also know that those small, mundane moments are where deep connection and joy live—if we can learn to see them. ✨ In this episode, I share: Four small but powerful practices I use to stay grounded and present Why writing down 10 things I’m grateful for every morning changes everything How prioritizing tiny acts of self-care adds up in big ways The importance of surrounding yourself with positive energy A simple mindset shift that turns chores into acts of love How mindfulness can help us actually be where our feet are Joy doesn’t always have to be loud or obvious. Sometimes it’s tucked into the quiet, the ordinary, the pause before we pick up the next task. I hope this episode reminds you to slow down, look up, and notice it.

Lighting

Lighting can make or break a photo—and it’s one of the most important things I consider when planning a session. In today’s episode of The Photographer’s Couch, I’m diving into how I evaluate lighting at new locations, why I sometimes ask clients to send me photos of their space, and how I adapt my approach when the weather throws us a curveball. Whether you're a fellow photographer or someone planning a photo session, this episode will give you insight into how I think through lighting decisions, what types of shade work best, and why I usually don’t reschedule on cloudy days. ✨ What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why I scout unfamiliar locations or ask clients to send photos What I look for in good natural lighting (and what I try to avoid) The difference between tree shade and building shade How I handle sessions on cloudy or overly sunny days Pro tips for clients getting photos done in less-than-ideal weather A few tricks I use in editing to make your photos shine 📷 Client or Photographer? This episode is packed with practical insights to help you understand what goes into creating beautiful, light-filled images—no matter the forecast.
