Dr. John R. Porterfield Jr., MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with expertise in endocrine, minimally invasive, and robotic surgery. After completing his surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, he joined the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he served as Professor of Surgery and Director of the General Surgery Residency Program. A nationally recognized educator and mentor, Dr. Porterfield has received multiple teaching awards and has contributed extensively to surgical education, research, and resident training. He currently practices in Alabama and continues to advance innovation in patient care and surgical technology.
