Ephesians 2:1–10 is the story of how God transforms spiritually dead, helpless sinners into His living masterpieces purely by His grace.

Our Past Condition (vv. 1–3): Before Christ, humanity wasn't just morally sick; we were spiritually dead (nekros), trapped by societal culture, evil, and selfish desires, standing under God's judgment.

God's Sovereign Rescue (vv. 4–9): Driven by boundless mercy, God stepped in ("But God...") to raise us to life and seat us with Christ. Salvation is a completely free gift received through faith, leaving no room for human boasting.

Our New Purpose (v. 10): We are God’s custom-designed masterpiece (poiema), saved not by good works, but for good works He already prepared for us to walk in.

We were dead in sin, God rescued us by grace, and now we live as His artwork with a divine purpose.
