London. November 7th, 1874. The Illustrated London News ran a short column on page 438. A sixteen-year-old mudlark — a river scavenger — had been found face down in the Thames at Blackfriars. The coroner ruled it a tragic, routine misadventure. The city moved on.
But the coroner never saw Inspector George Thorne's private notebook. He never saw what was clamped between the boy's frozen teeth.
The Blackfriars Dredge is the premiere episode of The Fading Witness — an audio drama drawn from the faded archives of a London that never quite closed its eyes. Where the record ends, the story begins.
