A researcher walks out of Anthropic saying neither lab is acting responsibly, and four days later all three are calling for the whole industry to slow down. That's the big pause, and the question is whether it's real or just good business.
Cam's read is that it looks a lot like Woolies and Coles having a quiet chat. When everyone at the front of the race agrees the race should slow down, it's fair to ask who that suits. Michael Burry calls the whole thing self-serving, and safety does make a very good moat.
The other camp has its own agenda. Trump, Xi and Jensen want servers, chips and memory to keep exploding, because that's where the economic gain sits. Whoever wins AI wins, as Trump put it. So it's three vs three, and nobody in this fight is doing it purely for the rest of us.
For the owner at the desk, nothing changes this week or next. The dystopian sci-fi version of this we think is overblown. Real change moves a lot slower than the headlines suggest, and the RAF is still running systems built in the 1960s to prove it. What's actually worth watching is the people side, making sure teams keep upskilling and stay employed through the in-between.
