I want to say something clearly at the start. The people who fall victim to the threats I am going to describe are not foolish. They are not naive. They are people with love for their families, trust in institutions, and a reasonable assumption that the world is mostly as it appears. The technology I am going to describe is specifically engineered to exploit those healthy human qualities. That is what makes it so effective. And that is what makes it so important to understand.
