The Locusts Within: Joel's Message for the Modern Soul

The short book of Joel is often treated as a prelude to the Book of Revelation — a smaller prophetic storm hinting at a larger one. As explored in the previous essay, Revelation is not a geopolitical forecast but a portrait of the spiritual commotion within a person. Joel belongs to the same tradition of inner apocalypse, but it approaches the human soul from a different angle. Joel is the apocalypse of the wounded inner self. Joel reveals the personal psychology of the spiritual battle — the locusts that slowly eat away at joy, the famine of the inner life, the return to honesty, and the valley where God confronts the internal enemies that have ruled a person’s story. Joel not only prepares you to understand Revelation, Joel exists to help you understand yourself.

The Gathered: How Religion Rebuilt What Jesus Destroyed

The children of the exile reconstructed hierarchy, purity codes, systems of exclusion, and a righteousness built from the outside in. They rebuilt the very world God had judged. Jesus steps into this world not as a reformer but as a divine interruption. He touches lepers, eats with sinners, heals on the Sabbath, and speaks with women and Gentiles — to reveal that the structures Israel rebuilt do not reflect the heart of God, that they reflect the memory of the prostitute days, dressed in religious respectability. Jesus names this generational cycle with piercing clarity: “You build the tombs of the prophets… yet you are the children of those who murdered them” (Matthew 23:29–31). His ministry dismantles the rebuilt hierarchies, purity systems, identity markers, and authority structures. He does not adjust the old world; He ends it.

Personal Apocalypse: When Your Old Life Reaches Its End Time

The great transition across Scripture is God gradually moves His guidance from exterior to interior. The law written on stone becomes the law written on the heart. The external temple becomes the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. The external signs of covenant identity — circumcision, sacrifices, ritual purity — give way to the circumcision of the heart, the sacrifice of praise, and the purity of conscience. The old covenant dealt with nations; the new covenant deals with hearts. The old covenant punished externally; the new covenant convicts internally. The old covenant relied on visible discipline; the new covenant relies on invisible transformation.

How God Describes You

When we apply ancient interpretive tradition to Job 39, we find that God is revealing something true not only about Job, but about all humanity — where creation becomes a mirror for the human soul, and the animals become symbols of the hidden, instinctive, paradoxical, untamable dimensions of ourselves.

Why God Gave Us the Psalms

So if you want to grow in Christ… If you want to understand Jesus more deeply… If you want to be formed into someone who can live His teachings from the inside out… Return to the Psalms. Pray them. Sing them. Wrestle with them. Let them shape you. Because this — this is how God rolls. He forms His people through the prayers He gave them. And the Psalms are His curriculum.

How to Love Wisely

Holy Spirit gives wisdom beyond appearances, reveals danger where the eyes see none, reveals innocence where others see threat, protects the vulnerable, convicts the manipulative, comforts the wounded, and guides us into truth. Our calling is not to judge by what we see, nor to believe every story we hear, but to walk in step with the One who sees all.

God's Judgment (And Why We Miss It)

God judges with wisdom, patience, and love — and even the darkest things can become tools in His hands. Evil doesn’t win. God does. See you on That’s How God Rolls.

The Torque of God

Episode about the way God turns the smallest, weakest, most unlikely point into the pivot of redemption. The way He moves the world with what looks like nothing. The way He hides life inside death, victory inside surrender, glory inside humility. The way He takes the lowest place and uses it to lift the universe.

Grace: that Shades and that Humbles

Few biblical stories reveal grace more vividly than the plant God provides in Jonah 4—it grows overnight, dies overnight, and exposes the heart of a prophet who loves receiving grace but resents seeing it given to others. And when we place Jonah’s plant alongside Paul’s thorn, Isaiah’s lament, Jesus’ crown of thorns, and Augustine’s reflections on grace and the free will, a fuller picture emerges. God’s grace is unearned, often unnoticed, extended to believers and unbelievers alike, and delivered through both the faithful and the faithless. And sometimes, the same God who gives shade also allows thorns; God’s way of keeping our faith awake and reaching toward Him, drawing us back into the daily practice of faith that is lived and real.

How God Reshapes

Isaiah 65 tells the story of how God reshapes a people who have lost their way into a community that is able to dwell in peace. It begins with disordered worship and ends with new creation yet it is not a collection of disconnected promises, but a single movement of transformation.
