Inspiring change agents for sustainability
What does sustainability leadership actually look like from the inside? In this episode, EUA’s Thomas Jørgensen visits the office of Liz Price, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Sustainability at Manchester Metropolitan University: a small office in the middle of the campus, a poster of Kilimanjaro on the wall and a role that didn't exist until she made it. Liz takes us through her path to this role, the university-wide culture, the vision and the unexpected moments that shaped one of the UK's most recognised sustainability programmes in higher education. A conversation about inspiration and what it takes to move an entire institution. Guest: Liz Price, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor Sustainability, Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom Host: Thomas Jørgensen, Director for Policy Coordination and Foresight, European University Association
Teaching sustainability across borders
What does a university class on sustainability look like and who is sitting in it? In this episode, Thomas Jørgensen visits a 17th-century palace in Kraków, now home to the Jagiellonian University. Here, he finds two lawyers reinventing how a university teaches sustainability across borders. Lena Helińska, chose law because reality is complex and law is always about reality. Piotr Szwedo spent years teaching international water law, until he realised that behind every legal norm there is a human problem that no legal text alone can solve. Today they are co-building BASUS – the Una Europa alliance’s Joint Bachelor’s in Sustainability across 11 European universities. A conversation about emotions, bold choices and ideas that stop you mid-sentence: what if feeling it comes before fixing it? Guest: Lena Helińska, Researcher, Faculty of Law and Administration, Jagiellonian University, Poland Piotr Szwedo, Associate professor, Chair of Public International Law, Jagiellonian University, Poland Host: Thomas Jørgensen, Director for Policy Coordination and Foresight, European University Association
