In this episode, we have a conversation about the relationship between legalism and Anabaptism. Having grown up Mennonite, we've had a long time to think about this subject. While there are many forms that legalism can take, we discuss the symptoms of legalism that are unique to the Anabaptist culture. We aren't trying to be controversial, pick a fight, or any such thing. Rather, we're exploring a pattern we've detected. Above all, we're seeking to celebrate the freedom found in Christ.

Scott discusses the surpassing worship of worship God in nature. In our world today, we have successfully disjoined science from faith. This has even affected the church in certain ways. How can it be that we know more to about the laws of nature than ever before, but our worship of the Creator is potentially shallower than ever before.

Jordan’s Blog: Abortion

In this episode, Scott reads off Jordan’s recent blog. It is a very descriptive blog on the horrors of abortion. A testimony before Congress by Anthony Levintino does not leave much to the imagination. This was not a fun one for Jordan to write, or for Scott to read. However, we trust and hope that as you listen or read the article (you can find it on Jordan’s FB page) that you are brought to brokenness at the horror of the sin of abortion. And how “normalized” it has become.

Have you ever scratched your head when reading some of Jesus responses to people? The encounter with the Rich Young Ruler can be one of those. Does Jesus have a deeper understanding of the depth and meaning of the Gospel than we do? Do we understand the depth of what the Gospel is?

Jesus Stands in the Gap

Are we as people “gap fillers?” Are texts in Ezekiel and Isaiah that mention that God looked for someone but found “no one,” trying to motivate us as people to “get with the program?” Or is there a deeper interpretation of these texts? When Paul says in Romans 3 that there is “NONE righteous…ALL have sinned,” is he getting this imagery from texts like Isaiah and Ezekiel? Scott looks at some of the contexts of Isaiah and attempts to unpack them. Hopefully this episode brings you to see Christ as our great mediator. The One Who fills the gap between God and man.

Love and Law: The Joy of Submission

Scott is by himself again this episode. If you think of Jordan and his work in teaching English to refugees, keep him in your prayers. Scott refers to an incident in his marriage, where his wife’s example of love and trust led to submission. This will have a resounding effect as I think about my love for Jesus. Does your love result in a love for the commands of Christ? The example of my wife has had a profound impact as I consider what it looks like to love Jesus.

Satan’s Greatest Tool: Dissatisfaction in God

Scott is by himself for this episode. Scott explains where Jordan is for the next 2 months. For this episode Scott reads a blog article that he recently published. The article discusses the great deception that Satan employs in making men think that God is not all-satisfying.
