The Church Is Not Optional If You Want to Be Healed

The Orthodox Church teaches that salvation is healing, not a legal transaction. Christ is the Great Physician, and the Church is the hospital where that healing takes place. Just as no one heals themselves by avoiding doctors and isolating from care, no Christian is healed apart from the life of the Church. Theosis, our transformation into the likeness of God, happens in communion, prayer, repentance, and shared struggle. We bear one another’s burdens because healing is never meant to be solitary.

This is why Scripture warns us not to forsake the assembly. The gathering of the faithful is where grace is concentrated, where love is practiced, and where accountability protects us from drifting into isolation. Clergy serve as spiritual physicians, not rulers, watching over souls with responsibility and care. Obedience in the Church is not blin ...
