Our Father - Part 3

Speaker: Pastor Jeremiah

How does your heavenly Father respond when you fail, and how do you respond when others fail you? In Part 3, Pastor Jeremiah explores Luke 15 through three heart postures: the younger son's return, the older brother's resentment, and the father's compassion. The message invites listeners to receive God's love without trying to earn it and to reflect that same grace toward others.

The context matters: Jesus tells these parables after religious leaders complain that He welcomes sinners. The lost sheep, lost coin, and returning son reveal joy over the lost being found. The older brother's reaction challenges us to ask whether we celebrate another person's restoration or believe they must first deserve our love.

EPISODE ROADMAP

02:04 - Facing failure. The message introduces both our own failures and the pain of being failed by others, setting up three contrasting heart postures.

06:48 - Why Jesus tells these stories. Luke 15 opens with criticism of Jesus for receiving sinners. His example brings love and truth together.

09:49 - The lost sheep and lost coin. These parables highlight the search for what is lost and prepare the way for the story of the two sons.

11:23 - The younger son's choices. After demanding his inheritance and wasting it, the son reaches a point of need and begins recognizing the truth about his situation.

18:06 - Turning toward home. His hope rests in his father's character. Acknowledging his failure leads him to return rather than keep struggling alone.

20:29 - The father's welcome. Compassion moves the father to run, embrace his son, and celebrate his return. Restoration begins with a welcome the son could not earn.

24:42 - The older brother's resentment. Years of service have not produced the father's heart in him. His anger exposes the danger of receiving grace while withholding it from others.

30:36 - When the hurt is personal. The message acknowledges real wounds, including family pain, and calls listeners to depend on Christ's love rather than remain defined by bitterness.

35:52 - Examine your heart. Are you trying to earn God's love? Does your response to others reflect the father or the older brother? The closing invitation is to repent and ask the Holy Spirit for strength to love.
