Evelyn Carriere on Cotton, Disaster Recovery & the Role of Trucking | Nemo Nation with Dave Nemo
Note sull'episodio
On this episode of Nemo Nation, hosts Dave Nemo and Jimmy Mac sit down with Evelyn Carriere to explore the journey of cotton — from the boll to the bobbin. Evelyn shares how cotton is grown, harvested, and transformed into the textiles that make our everyday clothing, highlighting the vital role of logistics and trucking in getting products from farm to factory to consumer.
Evelyn is a disaster recovery and hazard mitigation professional who founded the Wharton County Recovery Team in Texas after Hurricane Harvey. Growing up in a rural community, she saw firsthand how essential truckers are in delivering aid when communities are cut off, often reaching areas before FEMA or the National Guard. Beyond her nonprofit work, Evelyn has conducted applied research in disaster mitigation at the University of New Orleans CHART and Stanford University, focusing on equitable evacuation strategies and community resilience.
Through her experiences, she emphasizes that effective disaster response and recovery is fundamentally a logistics challenge, requiring coordination between public agencies, private industry, and local communities.
