✨God Is Already Here✨

Moses wasn’t searching for a spiritual experience when God met him. He was tending sheep, a job he likely never imagined for himself when he was raised as Egyptian royalty.

The ground beneath his feet didn’t look particularly holy, either. And yet, it became the place where God revealed himself through a burning bush.

This pattern shows up again and again in Scripture. God meets people not only in temples or sacred spaces, but in fields, boats, prisons, and homes.

Paul tells the Athenians that God is “not far from any one of us,” and that “in him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:27-28).

In other words, sometimes God’s presence interrupts, but more often, God’s presence is something we can learn to notice.

But many of us struggle with prayer because we assume it requires special conditions: quiet rooms, long stretches of time, carefully chosen words.

And when those circumstances aren’t available, prayer can become frustrating, peripheral, and even forgotten.

But Scripture offers a different picture: prayer begins with paying attention and recognizing that God is already present in the places we move through every day.

It's helpful to stop dividing life into “spiritual” and “non-spiritual” spaces. When we trust that God meets us in our routines, responsibilities, and unfinished tasks. The invitation of prayer isn’t to escape ordinary life, but to encounter God within it.

Today’s scriptures remind us that holy ground is often revealed when we don’t expect it. God speaks before Moses knows to listen, and he is present before Moses responds.

A Prayer for Today

Creator God, who took what was formless and void and gave it shape and meaning, reclaim today and these small, seemingly insignificant moments.

You who filled emptiness with beauty and gave all creatures their purpose, help me discover meaning in the mundane.

Ordain the very ordinariness of the tasks before me, or my current lack of them, for your glory, the good of the world, and my good. Amen.

Reflect✨

Where do you spend most of your time right now?

What places or moments do you tend to overlook spiritually?

How might your prayer life change if you assumed God was already present?
