Join Joe McDonald as he delves into the concept of insanity from an alcoholic’s perspective, as defined in the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book. Joe explains that insanity for the alcoholic is often an appalling lack of perspective and the inability to think clearly. He emphasizes that this isn’t about expecting different results from the same actions; rather, for many alcoholics, it’s about continuing the same destructive behavior without expecting anything to change. Joe highlights that through Steps 10 and 11, sanity begins to return as we gain spiritual clarity and a restored perspective.
In Alcoholics Anonymous, Step 10 helps us maintain a clear sense of self-awareness and accountability, while Step 11 encourages deepening our conscious contact with our Higher Power. Joe reflects on the promise that by this time, sanity will return, and the steps will guide us away from the destructive cycles of addiction and into a life of spiritual freedom.
