Not All Heroes Wear Capes - My FLGS

This week, I had the chance to talk to one of the unsung heroes of our amazing hobby. Dean Verco, owner and operator of one of our Friendly Local Game Stores, Advent Games here in Sydney joined me for a chat. Dean was candid and open about what his vantage point and role in our hobby looks like, and shared his effusively joyful view. It was a genuine honour, getting to peek behind the curtain on what it's like to be the dealer in a world where we literally have no idea what tomorrow even looks like. It's pretty clear, and you'll hear that, I'm a fan. This week is not an ad. But I will say, Dean's selection, prices and customer service are second to none. I'm very grateful for all his hard work, over the last few years. Full disclosure, I approached Dean, there is no sponsorship or compensation here. This is a genuine interview, with an individual who gives tirelessly to our amazing hobby. Advent delivers nationwide, and here at OMC we're only too delighted to share his story. www.adventgames.com.au

Hellooooooo OMC crew! Usual format this week, I share all the 'Games that Were' and there were some amazing games. We played a couple of new expansions this week, one we liked, one we did not.... In FOMOMOFO I share my thoughts on a few campaigns that I'm following, though I must admit I've cooled just a tad over the last few weeks. I talk about Terraforming Mars the absolute-not-legacy game, and share my thoughts on SHUG, easily the weirdest little game I've ever seen. And in Voices in My Head, I share how it feels to realize I don't actually like a game, despite it possibly being an amazing game, coupled with my own inner dialogue that tries like crazy to convince me otherwise... Have a great week, you guys are the very best.

This week, I take you through all the table presence that is Lands of Evershade... what is it, what's it like? Is it any good? Don't worry, OMC is not a review podcast, this is not a review. Didn't you see the title? It's a 'spotlight'... The Peanut and I have started playing this, and I'm sharing my thoughts in detail. There is maybe one 'spoiler adjacent' moment, this episode does not have any content spoilers. However, if you want to know nothing, before your copy arrives, I'll see you next week. Thanks for spending your hour this week, listening to how I spend my time. OMC crew are the very best.

This week, after a couple of solid weeks of gaming, I bring you all the Games that Were, (spoiler alert, there were many, so it's MOST of the games that were). As usual, I share all my angst in FOMOMOFO and in voices in my head, I talk about the joys, tribulations and the utter importance of having a not only a solid replacement parts policy but also decent customer service to go along with it! I also disclose what is required to get into my pants, so there's that. Have a great week OMC crew, love ya. This week's episode notes are in the guild, if you feel like a quick read in more detail: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3699624/episode-56-replacement-parts The clap goes out to Efka for this episode and breakdown of minis in modern gaming: https://youtu.be/0kNO4TzeUnU?si=r5sXYOLzHTZgZc7a

In Voices in My Head, I had a round table chat (for one) about the nature and value of stretch goals in 2026.... This week's episode notes can be found here: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/new?assocItemType=guilds&assocItemId=4426 Thank you OMC crew, for all your messages over the last few weeks, for sharing your own stories, and for your time. Episode 53 - Why is solo gaming so freaking good....

This week you're only getting half of the Games that Were, the other half were shared on So Very Wrong About Games. I had the pleasure of co-hosting this week's episode with Michael Walker. If you're not a regular listener of theirs, you can check them out here, their show is fantastic, and uploads each week on Wednesdays. https://www.sowronggames.com/ This week's companion notes are here on the guild: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/new?assocItemType=guilds&assocItemId=4426&forumuid=4736436 In Voices in My Head I talk for 20 minutes, and it's largely completely meaningless, well not meaningless, but it's kind of like board game astrology. Hopefully it's mildly relatable at lease. Have a superb week OMC crew, catch you next week.
