Mr. Chameleon - The Case of His Brother's Murderer

Ralph Brenton is meeting with Mr. Chameleon, Police Detective, in his office at Central Headquarters. Ralph says "Mr. Chameleon, I know I'm imposing on our friendship. Our acquaintanceship, I should say, since we've only met twice, but I had to do something. I couldn't let things go on this way. I'm convinced that my brother Lewis is about to be murdered". Chameleon asks "By whom, Mr. Brenton?" Ralph says "By Florence, his wife". Chameleon says "Mr. Brenton, are you serious?" Ralph says "Do you think for one minute I'd make a statement like that if I couldn't back it up? I've always been fond of Florence, and what has happened to her is a tragedy, but my brother Lewis comes first". Chameleon says "Yes, naturally. You're partners in the contracting business, aren't you? I had dinner once at your brother's home. It's very beautiful place". Ralph says "Yes it is. I'm living there now. I have been for six months, and I've watched this thing develop. I've watched it grow, this ... this tragedy". Chameleon says "Yes, you spoke of tragedy in connection with your sister-in-law. Oh, incidentally, I've never met her. She was away when I was there, but I hear she's very lovely". Ralph says "Oh, she is. I've always been deeply fond of Florence". Ralph pauses for a second and says "Mr. Chameleon, she's losing her mind. For over six months now she's been treated by specialists for a nervous disorder, but it's getting worse instead of better". Chameleon says "Oh, that's very sad". Ralph says "Lewis has kept it quiet. He thinks it's something that will pass. I don't. Particularly not with Carl Robbins in the picture". Chameleon says "Carl Robbins, the architect?" Ralph says "That's the one. He's staying with them now. Florence thinks she's in love with him. She's asked Lewis for her freedom, but Lewis won't give it to her. That's why I'm terribly afraid of what she may do to Lewis, in her mental state".

Suspense - Cabin B-13

Richard and Anne Brewster, a newly wedded couple, are racing to get aboard the Mauritania, an ocean liner bound from New York to Europe. They arrive at the pier, and hurry through customs, Anne says "A honeymoon in Europe! Three whole months with nothing to worry about". Ricky says "That's right, dear. And you've been my wife for .... let's see ... practically five hours now". Anne says "I believe the correct phrase is "It was so sudden, Mr. Brewster". They laugh and Ricky says "Yes, it was so sudden that we have to travel on our own passports instead of a husband and wife one". Anne asks "Oh, what about our tickets, Ricky. Do we give them to the ship's officer standing at the top of the gangplank?" Ricky says "No, the cabin steward will come and collect them later, when we're underway". Anne says "And the money, Ricky?" He says "Hmm, That is a lot of money,10,000 dollars in cash. Maybe I better turn it in to the purser's office for safekeeping". Anne says "Yes, maybe you had". They get aboard and go to find their cabin. Ricky says "Here it is, B Deck and cabin number ... Good Lord, it's B-13. You're not superstitious are you?" Anne says "No, dear, not about things like that. Open the door". They go in and find their luggage has already been placed there. Soon, the ship is about to get underway. Anne says "I'd like to see the Statue of Liberty and the skyline as we go past". Ricky says "Why not go see it? I've got to deposit this money in the purser's office, then I'll join you as soon as I can". Anne is soon standing at the rail as the ship gets under way. She says out loud "All these happy and excited people crowding up to the rail. Nothing to worry about except ..." A man standing nearby says "Except what?" Anne is startled at first, but then says "I'm sorry, I haven't been very well". The man says "I know, that's why I spoke to you. I'm Dr. Henrik, the ship's doctor". Anne introduces herself, and says "This is a beautiful ship, and they've given us a lovely cabin on the B Deck, B-13". Dr. Henrik stops and says "Mrs. Brewster, there is no such cabin aboard this ship".

Whitehall 1212 - The Case of William George Greenly

The Chief Constable of Essex telephoned the Scotland Yard Criminal Investigation Division from Romford at 9:05 on the morning of Tuesday, September the 27th, asking that officers be sent to Stapleford Abbotts, a village halfway between Romford and Ongar on the London Chelmsford Road. Chief Inspector Quinton Tabset of Scotland Yard was assigned to the case. Tabset, along with Detective Sergeant Philip Wise, traveled to Stapleford Abbots, which is about four miles outside the limits of the Metropolitan Police Area. When they arrived, they were shown the body of Police Constable William George Greenly, who had been stationed there. He had been found murdered alongside the road a few miles from the village. The Chief Constable explained to Wise and Tabset what had happened. He says "We know it happened sometime after 1:30 AM, chief inspector, because I met him at a conference point at that time". Tabset asks "Where, Councilman?" He says "Near Grove House on the road to Ongar, about 600 yards from where the body was found, sir. He had been shot four times, sir. Twice through the head and, these other two. Tabset says "That's horrible". Chief Constable says "Yes, sir. They shot the poor chap square in each eye. I hope they drown in their own blood, sir". Tabset says "At least, they'll hang". The Constable says "Bill Greenly and I were kids together, sir". Tabset says "They'll hang". Constable says "He had his pencil in his hand, sir. His notebook was lying on the road near him. He evidently stopped a car and was talking to them". Tabset asks "Are there marks on the road?" The Constable says "I'll show you, sir. It isn't far. I'd rather like to get out of here".

The Man Called X - Race Against Death

Ken Thurston, an American Intelligence agent, is having a meeting with the Chief of the Intelligence Bureau. The Chief says "So, his dying words were asking for you, Ken?" Ken says "That's what the report says". Chief says "What's the connection between the murder of a Puerto Rican newspaper man and the bureau?" Ken says "Luis Rivera was more than a newspaper man. He was a crusader, always fighting for the benefit of the little people and for his country. This time, I think he bit off more than he could chew". Chief asks "Like what?" Ken says "Like the Nationalista Party". Chief says "Wait a minute, Ken. They no threat anymore. After that assassination attempt in Washington, they were broken up". Ken says "Or did they just go underground? Chief, that party is an organized gang of revolutionaries. You know, Puerto Rico for the Puerto Ricans. We've heard that line before, in places such as China, and Korea". Chief says "Yes, but Ken, we don't know that they've gone underground. We haven't any proof". Ken says "What if Luis Rivera had that proof?" Chief says "Hmm". He calls his secretary and says "Miss Brooks, Book passage for Ken Thurston on the first plane for San Juan, Puerto Rico". Later that day, when Ken arrives in San Juan, along with his somewhat dubious assistant, Pegon Zellschmidt. Getting off the plane, Pegon says "Believe me, Mr. X, you won't ever regret taking me along here to Puerto Rico. I know every hot dive in San Juan". Ken says "That figures". Pegon says "Whatever it is you want here, I'm the guy who can fix it up". Ken says "I want you to get me some information about the Nationalista party". Pegon says "The Nationalista Party? Mr. X, these Nationalista jokers would cut your neck for a nickel". Ken says "Then you know them". Pegon says "I won't admit that, not for a million dollars. Hey .... that's a C-Note!"

You went and busted the clock". Carl says "That's not all I'm going to bust, either. Where's Janet?" Sheppy says "Give her a chance, Carl. She'll show". Carl says "When? She was due here an hour ago". Sheppy says "Maybe she got tied up with that jerk. Harry Jensen". Carl says "That's still no excuse. I told her a dozen ...." Suddenly, someone knocks on the door. Carl says "Get that". Sheppy says "Yeah, I'll get it. Just a second". He opens the door, and Janet says "Hello, Sheppy". He says "You're just in time, Janet. It's Carl, he's blowing his top". Janet says "Don't worry about it. It'll do him good". Carl says "Is that you, Janet? Where the devil have you been?" Janey says "Working". Carl says "You were due here at 8 o'clock". Janet says "There were, what they call, extenuating circumstances". Carl says "How'd you make out with Harry Jensen?" Janet says "Well, he's loosening up a little, but he still wouldn't kick through with the information". Carl says "Well, that's a nice, how do you do?" Janet says "Well, if you think you can do better". Sheppy says "Take it easy, Carl. You too, Janet". She says "How much time have I had to work on him?" Sheppy says "Look, we know it's only been a week, but time is getting short. Vince Dario will be here tomorrow". Janet says "Who?" Sheppy says "Carl called him in to help us. He's the best man in the business. You two need to make up, because we've got a lot of work to do".

Ben asks "What is it, skipper? Why all the hush hush?" Ed says "Wait until we get inside". They all go into a room. Ed says "Number one, let's all keep our voices down. I'll make it as brief as I can. What time you got, Friday?" Joe says "8:33". Ed says "All right, here it is. Fifty five minutes ago, a man walked into this building with a homemade bomb under his arm".

Boston Blackie - Buckley Protection Agency

Boston Blackie, an ex-jewel thief, has been on both sides of the law. After being reformed, he is now an honest private detective, but has a somewhat strained relationship with Inspector Faraday of the Los Angeles Police. One morning, Blackie was summoned to see a racket boss named Buckley, who was new to Los Angeles. As Blackie arrives at Buckley's place of business, he is escorted in by Harry, one of Buckley's employees. Walking down a long hallway, Blackie says "You're certainly giving me a royal welcome, Harry". He coughs and says "Sure thing. You follow me". Upon reaching Buckley's office, Harry knocks on the door. A voice inside says "Yes?". Harry says "Boss, Blackie is here to see you". Buckley says "Oh, that's fine. Come right in, Blackie". They go in and Buckley says "That'll be all, Harry. Go back to your post". Harry coughs and says " Sure thing, boss". Buckley says "Harry, you have a cold?" Harry says "Yeah, but I'm doing something about it". Buckley says "Well, Blackie, I'm glad to see you". Blackie says "And I'm amazed to see you, Buckley. I mean, amazed at the ease with which I got in". Buckley says "Country hospitality, Blackie. You forget this is my first venture in the role of a city slicker". Blackie says "And it's your last, too, Buckley. I know the kind of jobs you pulled up state, and I know you've come here to take a crack at bigger stuff. You're an awful sucker to have sent for me". Buckley says "Don't antagonize me, Blackie. I'm in much too good a mood for unpleasantness. Don't you think it's strange that I sent for you? Don't you have a notion? It's because I'm not afraid of you or anything you can do to me. You see, I formed a protective agency, Blackie. And you're the president. However, if you interfere in my business or if you don't keep Faraday off my neck, your girlfriend Mary Wesley will go to jail for the murder of a man named Henry Dale".

Bold Venture - A Bullet for Shannon

Saylor says "Mr. Shannon hardly ever regrets anything, do you Slate?" He says "That's because I lead such a clean life". Saylor says "See, Mr. Bullock? Where else could you have found a 100% fellow like Slate here to take you all the way to Key West in his own boat?" Bullock says "Oh, how well I know. Oh, that reminds me, the passage money". Slate says "You can pay me when I land you at Key West". Bullock says "And when you do that, you'll get a nice plump bonus". Saylor says "Plump, huh? You're a nice man, Mr. Bullock". He says "Well, thank you. I've got the money right here". Bullock pulls out a large roll of bills and says "I'll peel off any part of it, just say when". He peels off a few bills and Slate says "When". Saylor says "What did I tell you, Mr. Bullock? You finally found an honest man". Slate says "It means a lot to you to get to Key West, doesn't it, Mr. Bullock?" He says "Oh it does. I'm just not cut out for this excitement in Havana. I'm strictly a home body. How much farther to your boat, Mr. Shannon?" Slate says "A couple of minutes". About that time, two guys in a car coming up quickly from behind slam on their brakes. Slate says "Watch it, Saylor. Hey, what's with you guys? You know better than to drive in Havana with your headlights off. You could have .... " One of the guys says "Keep it polite, friend. We just want to ask directions". Bullock says "Mr. Shannon, look out! They're the men who ...." Just then, several shots rang out!

Dangerous Assignment - Stolen Missile Plan Microfilm

Steve Mitchell walks into the Commissioner's office and says "Good morning. Ruth said you had something for me". Commissioner says "I do. Here it is, Steve, a plane ticket ...." Steve says "Oh no, not again. So soon?" Commissioner asks "How soon can you get packed?" Steve says "Look, the way you've had me hopping around the world lately, I don't even have anything left to pack. I've got a dirty shirt in practically every city in the world". Commissioner says "You're flying to Dublin, Ireland". Steve says "I don't even have a necktie there, but why Dublin?" Commissioner says "You'll be looking for an object about the size of a walnut". Steve says "I'm flying to Ireland to look for nuts? I can find plenty of them right here at home". Commissioner says "This is the size of a walnut, but it's a whole lot more valuable, a roll of microfilm containing the complete plans of our latest and most improved guided missile". Steve says "Oh, stolen, huh?" Commissioner says "Yes, and we think we know who smuggled them out of the country. A man named Ernest Webber. He left by plane the day before yesterday. Here's his picture and all the data we have. It isn't much, Steve, but we're depending on you to get that microfilm. Well, that's it. You've got your assignment. Good luck".

Lemuel says "No, thank you, Emily". Audrey says "But, it's your favorite pie, Lemuel. Aren't you feeling well?" Lemuel says "I'm quite all right, Audrey. I'll just have some coffee". Emily says "I'll pour it for you, Mr. Barker". Lemuel says "Thank you, Emily". Audrey says "Lemuel, something's been bothering you this evening. I wish you'd tell me. I can see you're worried". Lemuel says "Let's finish our coffee, Audrey, and we'll discuss it inside. Frankly, I have something on my mind". He drinks some of his coffee, and says "Audrey, this coffee, it ...." Suddenly, Lemuel coughs and falls out of his chair! Audrey says "What's the matter? Lemuel?" Emily says "What's happened, Mrs. Barker?" Audrey says "My husband, he ... he's fainted!" Emily says "His eyes, Mrs. Barker, look at his eyes! Has hasn't fainted. He's dead!" The next day, Audrey pays a visit to Mr. Keen and his partner, retired police officer, Mike Clancy. At their meeting, Audrey says "When the when the police took my husband's body for an autopsy, Mr. Keen, they found that he'd been poisoned. A very powerful poison had been put in the coffee he drank. A poison that reacted in a matter of seconds". Keen says "You were fortunate not to have had some of that poison coffee yourself, Mrs. Barker". She says "Well, Emily Cross, our housekeeper, served Lemuel, my husband, first. He drank his coffee before I was starting to drink mine". Keen says "And the police believe it was not accidental poisoning, but murder?" Audrey says "Yes, Mr. Keen".
