On Tremedes 2, a dying deep-ocean industrial platform is being eaten alive from the inside out. Decades of corporate waste dumping mutated the native life into Silt Kings, massive segmented predators that have claimed the flooded lower levels as a spawning nursery. Team Mako, a four-man demolition unit, is deployed to the lowest depths to plant seismic charges, collapse Sector 7, and dissolve the alien brood with corrosive solution.
The descent is a calculated nightmare. The Silt Kings hunt from below, using coiled proboscises to drag prey through deck grates, and the station is coated in an iridescent mucus that clogs the soldiers' rebreather filters. To guarantee the mission's success, the squad leader carries a dead man's switch synced to his vitals—if his heart stops, the charges fire automatically. They navigate the buckling corridors, plant the first charges, and attempt to move silently past the watching adults.
But when a panicked soldier fires an acoustic disruptor to cover a wounded man, the sound enrages the synchronized juveniles. A boiling tide of segmented bodies erupts from the sump, swarming and dismantling one soldier before he can fall back. The primary charge is armed, the platform is collapsing, and the squad leader's faulty scrubber cartridge accelerates his filter clog. He is forced to abandon his remaining men and climb a vertical kilometer through a waterfall of corrosive brine on failing life support, his dead man's switch still pulsing green.
