The Great Smog: Weird History

Description

The Great Smog — When London Disappeared Into Its Own Smoke

In December 1952, a thick blanket of deadly smog settled over London.

For five days, coal smoke, industrial pollution, and weather conditions combined to trap toxic air over the city. Visibility dropped dramatically, transportation was disrupted, and the smog seeped into homes and buildings.

Thousands of people died during and after the event.

The disaster helped change how Britain approached air pollution and eventually led to stronger clean-air laws.
