I Became An Endurance Athlete In My 40s - Here’s What Nobody Told Me

I became an endurance athlete in my 40s…and there are SO many things nobody told me about what this journey would actually be like 🏊🏼‍♀️🚴🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ I didn’t grow up as a competitive swimmer. I didn’t spend my childhood doing triathlons. I learned freestyle swimming as an adult, learned cycling as an adult, and eventually found myself falling completely in love with the world of endurance sports. And somewhere along the way, distances that once sounded impossible started sounding normal. Goals that once scared me became goals I wanted to chase. And I started discovering that maybe we’re capable of a whole lot more later in life than we’re sometimes led to believe 💕 In this episode of the Maren Will Tri Podcast, I’m talking about some of the biggest things I’ve learned from becoming an endurance athlete later in life—including feeling like you don’t belong when you’re a beginner, comparing yourself to lifelong athletes, learning to take recovery seriously, dealing with bad workouts, finding friendships through endurance sports, building confidence, and discovering just how much your body may still be capable of. But this episode isn’t really just about swimming, biking and running. It’s about starting something before you feel ready. It’s about allowing yourself to be a beginner. It’s about choosing goals that scare you a little. And it’s about refusing to believe that your dreams have to become smaller simply because you’re getting older 💕 One of the greatest gifts endurance sports has given me isn’t a medal or a finish time. It’s the opportunity to keep asking myself: What else am I capable of? And I’m still finding out ✨ If you’ve ever thought you’re too old, too slow, too inexperienced, too intimidated, or simply too late to start, I made this episode especially for you. You don’t have to be the fastest person at the race. You don’t have to have been an athlete your entire life. You don’t have to know exactly what you’re doing when you begin. You just have to be willing to start 💕 I’d love to hear from you: What’s something you’ve always wanted to try but have convinced yourself you’re too old, or too late, to start? Tell me in the comments ⬇️ I genuinely want to hear your story. And if you’re also chasing big goals later in life, subscribe and come along for the journey. We’re just getting started 💕🏊🏼‍♀️🚴🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ Follow Maren Will Tri: 📸 Instagram: @marenwilliamstri 🎵 TikTok: @marenwilliamstri 🎙️ The Maren Will Tri Podcast It’s never too late to see what you’re capable of 💕 #EnduranceAthlete #TriathlonOver40 #Triathlon #EnduranceTraining #WomenInTriathlon #Over40Fitness #AdultOnsetAthlete #RunningOver40 #TriathlonTraining #MarenWillTri

11 Freestyle Swimming Tips for Adult Beginners

Learning freestyle as an adult can feel intimidating—but I want you to know that you’re not alone. In this episode, I’m sharing 11 practical freestyle swimming tips that completely changed my own swimming journey.
