Born in California and raised in Oregon, Matt has been in the army where he spent time at Fort Bragg in North Carolina as well as time in Korea, Germany, Kosovo, and two deployments to Iraq. During this time he worked as a vehicle mechanic. After leaving the military he moved to North Carolina and became a security guard. He then completed an associate degree from Central Piedmont Community College in Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technology. He worked for Caterpillar before becoming a diesel mechanic instructor.
