The Best and Worst Things to do for Your People Right Now

It seems like almost every conversation that we’re in these days ends up talking about worker shortages, the potential for economic instability ahead, continuing COVID-19 challenges, and other issues facing workers in every sector. What is an employer, team leader, or boss supposed to do right now that helps their people feel connected, valued, and seen? And what do they not do, because it makes things worse? In this weeks episode of Let’s Make Work Human: stop the suck, we take an irreverent look at what sometimes might seem basic. People are what make organizations great, and leaders at every level need to be thinking about what it is that they’re doing to tend to their critical human assets. Which, by the way, includes taking care of themselves. What are the best and worst things you can do for the people who work for you right now? Let’s dig in! I’m offering a culture master class that is starting August 25 and will help you build an unbreakable culture to weather whatever comes: https://lu.ma/3hnpehpz Oh, and Moe wrote about this on the blog last week, too, Check it out here: https://moecarrick.com/the-heck-is-up-with-hybrid-work/ Www.moecarrick.com To receive weekly gold in your inbox, sign up for the I newsletter here https://newsletter.leadwithmoe.com/ To learn how to be a leader who is good for people and gets kick ass results, check out the Leading People Program™ here: https://moecarrick.com/the-leading-people-program/ To connect with Moe email moe@moecarrick.com to connect with Mei email mei@moecarrick.com

What's the Deal With Hybrid Work?

Everyone is talking about hybrid work--why it works, why it doesn't, who should do and who should not. But let's face it, what "hybrid work" even means is at best in its infancy and at worst, the wild, wild west. This week, we kick the tires of this new world of work we call hybrid and look under the hood at the dark sides while also celebrating some of the very good things it brings to workers and people leaders alike. All the pundits (Malcolm Gladwell, Adam Grant, and more) and organizations large and small are talking about it and making big pronouncements. We, of course, have our very own opinions! Listen here and let us know what you think. When is it Time to Get Help?

Do you love asking for help? Right. Most of us do not. It is hard and scary to ask for help, especially when it comes to coaching and consulting in our organizations and at work. In this week’s episode we look at the myths that surround getting help from coaches and consultants, what has sometimes gotten in Moe’s way, and what gets unlocked when we can admit that we do, in fact need help. Let’s dig in to building support for ourselves in every work sector. Leading Like A Girl

This week we are talking about leading like a girl. That’s right. Why is leadership gendered? Why is leading like a girl not advice we give? We talk about where masculine and feminine leadership traits came from and what they are. We talk about the dangers for every gender when we as a society over index on one or the other. We talk about mean girls. We talk about the Athena Doctrine. We talk about our experiences of assimilating to masculine leadership traits as a sign of being a good leader. We talk about why the narrow band of masculinity cripples many men from showing up fully at work. All in all, this is a meaty one. Should We Always Be Happy at Work?

That is the question that we tackle on today’s podcast. We explore the difference between happy and thriving and why it matters to understand which one is true for us. We also take a look at jobs we’ve had where we had one but not the other and what the impact of that was. Today we look at some examples of how a job can serve us, feed us, and yes, help us thrive which means we sometimes feel happy there. Is it our employers job to make sure that we are happy at work every day? We think not, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t think about it. Have a listen and let us know what you think. Stop That—What Artifacts Must Go at Work

Most of the rules about how we work have their roots in the overseer model of the Industrial Revolution. Isn’t it time we replace them? This week we are looking closely at the new rules for work and what mindsets and practices have to go. Together we unpack the importance of work and life, myths about overwork and being a slacker, lazy leadership, and the fact that people are not machines. Working for Money and its Baggage

Money, money, money, show me the money. This week we get real with why we all go to work after all in a capitalist society, even though we know money does not motivate most of us by itself. We dig into how gender shows up when we talk about money and why we have to change the storyline to create more honest contracts in the workplace and level the playing field for real. Mei comes clean with a Millenial’s view of money and life and almost asks Moe for more on-air! Leading People when the World is Wild

We see the news and feel the trauma of what is happening in the world right now, from violent mass shootings to climate change, and then we go to work. How are leaders supposed to navigate the impact our ever-changing world has on people at work? This week we look at why it is important to notice, name, and facilitate conversations that matter at work so that people can do the hard things while working in a world on fire. We share how we do it in our workplace, where we have messed up, and how we plan to keep showing up.
