The case of Gary Ridgway, the "Green River Killer," one of the most prolific serial killers in the U.S. He operated in Washington state starting in the early 1980s, targeting vulnerable young people, runaways, and sex workers, and leaving their bodies near the Green River. He was arrested in 2001 based on DNA evidence. In 2003, he pleaded guilty to 48 murders to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to life imprisonment. A 49th case was later confirmed.
