Are Women Asking for Too Much or Are Men Missing the Point?

Why are men expected to just know what women want? In this episode of Jollof & Kompa, a conversation inspired by the movie The Invite turns into a much bigger debate about expectations in marriage. Should your husband automatically notice the new dress, compliment you, know when you need reassurance, and understand what you're feeling without being told? Or is it unfair to expect your partner to read your mind? Augustus argues that men are often expected to instinctively get these things right, while Alexis pushes back on whether communicating and making your partner feel wanted should really feel like such a burden. That leads us into an even deeper conversation about why many men struggle to express their emotions, how childhood shapes the way we communicate as adults, and whether failing to share your feelings can become a form of dishonesty in marriage. And somehow, we end the episode debating whether we would ever accept that kind of invitation from another couple. 😂 Do you think men are expected to read women's minds in relationships—or should people simply communicate what they need? Why Are You Trying To Initiate S*x At 2AM?!!!

Esplicito
In this episode of Jollof & Kompa, we’re having a very honest conversation about intimacy in marriage — who initiates, how we handle rejection, why setting the mood can sometimes feel like too much work, and apparently… why 2AM has become a surprisingly popular time in our marriage. What starts as a conversation about initiating intimacy quickly turns into a debate about “maintenance sx,” vacation sx, spontaneous moments, and whether there are actually different categories of intimacy in marriage. We also talk about something many couples probably experience but don’t always discuss openly: figuring out what your partner responds to, learning not to take rejection personally, and making sure the responsibility for initiating doesn’t always fall on one person. And yes… we eventually get to the bottom of why these 2 AM sessions keep happening. 😂 ' Do you think there’s a “best” way to initiate intimacy in marriage? And does timing matter? My Wife Says My Dad Raised Me Too Soft

Was I raised too soft—or do I simply understand the value of paying someone else to do work I do not enjoy? What started as a conversation about painting our home gym quickly turned into a debate about money, hard work, childhood, and whether physical labor actually builds character. Alexis believes there is value in doing things yourself, while Augustus would rather outsource the work, save the time, and focus his energy elsewhere. Then Alexis brings up Augustus’s childhood—and the fact that his father would not allow him to cut grass with the other students at boarding school. Was he protected, spoiled, or simply raised differently? Later, we reflect on Alexis completing her six-year military commitment, the sacrifices military life required from both of us, and how those early years tested our new marriage. Who do you agree with? Does doing physical work yourself build character, or should you pay for help when you can afford it? Let us know in the comments. My Nigerian Husband Thinks Crying During Arguments Is “Manipulation”
