She Achieved Her National Geographic Dream—So Why Wasn’t She Happy? | Jen Guyton
Note sull'episodio
What happens when you finally achieve your biggest childhood dream—and realize it still doesn’t make you happy?
In this powerful episode of Inspire & Impact, Daniel Rosenstein sits down with Jen Guyton, an award-winning National Geographic photographer, scientist, storyteller, and transformational coach, for an honest conversation about success, identity, happiness, and discovering who you are beyond your achievements.
Jen spent years pursuing a childhood dream: becoming a National Geographic photographer. Her journey took her from scientific research to wildlife photography in Africa, eventually leading to a National Geographic assignment photographing spotted hyenas and a National Geographic cover story.
But after the excitement and recognition faded, Jen realized she still didn’t feel fulfilled.
She had achieved what she thought would finally make her happy, yet she still felt stressed, anxious, and disconnected.
Jen calls this the “achievement trap”—the belief that once we get the career, recognition, money, relationship, house, promotion, or milestone we’ve been chasing, we’ll finally feel happy and complete.
Her experience taught her that external achievement can provide temporary validation, but it cannot create lasting self-worth or fulfillment.
Jen shares her journey from scientist to National Geographic photographer to transformational coach. She talks about working in Africa, photographing wildlife, coming within feet of a male lion, taking bold opportunities, and eventually questioning the identity she had built around success.
She explains how therapy, self-reflection, spiritual exploration, and slowing down changed the way she viewed ambition and helped her ask deeper questions:
Who am I without my accomplishments?
What actually makes me feel alive?
Whose definition of success am I following?
What do I truly want versus what I think I should want?
Today, Jen helps high achievers reconnect with themselves through what she calls the Rewild Method.
Rather than adding more routines, productivity hacks, and self-improvement habits, the Rewild Method focuses on removing beliefs, expectations, and behaviors that keep people disconnected from who they really are.
Jen also shares an important message for anyone who looks successful on the outside but feels unfulfilled on the inside: slow down, get honest about what is and isn’t working, and notice the difference between the life you think you should want and the life you genuinely want.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, executive, creative professional, photographer, high achiever, or simply questioning what success really means, this conversation may change how you think about ambition, happiness, identity, and purpose.
