Note sull'episodio
There's exactly one person in history known to have volunteered to get sent to Auschwitz. Not captured. Not sentenced. He asked to go in.
Witold Pilecki walked into a Nazi roundup on purpose, using a fake name, to find out what was happening inside the camp and smuggle the truth back out. For two and a half years he did — building a secret resistance, sending reports to the Allies, documenting the death toll while living it. Nobody believed him.
He escaped, kept fighting, and lived to see the war end. Then his own country arrested him, tortured him, and executed him for telling the truth about what came next.
This week on Very Human History, we tell you why he did it — and what it cost him.
