Hangin' Out with Bob (and his friend, Wayne Damerow)

There’s something special about friends reconnecting, especially when they’ve gone decades without seeing each other. Podcaster Bob Edholm and his friend, Wayne Damerow, grew up in the same neighborhood in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, attended the same elementary, junior high and senior high schools, followed the same sports teams, and had similar tastes in music. But by the mid-1970s, both had moved away from “the old neighborhood” and rarely crossed paths. Happily, these two Boomers reconnected in the early 2010s and have managed to stay connected ever since. Have a listen as these longtime friends share laughs and reminisce.

Hangin' Out with Bob (and his friend, Jon Lawrence)

Bus stops. While it seems like most people waiting at bus stops these days are looking at their phones until their bus arrives, that’s not always the case. There were these two guys who were standing at a bus stop and not looking at their phones. One guy noticed that the other guy was wearing a jacket with a local sports team’s logo on it. “Small talk” about sports began at that bus stop and continued on the bus that drove them to their homes in Northeast Minneapolis. It also turned out that these two guys worked at the same large financial services company in downtown Minneapolis. That’s how Bob Edholm and Jon Lawrence met and became friends. As the days, weeks, and months went by, these two guys schmoozed about sports as though they had their own sports talk show. Years later, while they no longer work at that company or ride the bus to and from work, they’re still talking about sports. They manage to talk about things like music and TV shows, too. Podcast host Bob Edholm launches the third episode of his “Hangin’ Out with Bob” podcast with Jon Lawrence, his friend from Northeast Minneapolis. Have a listen as these onetime “bus buddies” share laughs and reminisce about their lives.

Hangin' Out with Bob (and his buddy, Tom Madigan)

What’s the best thing about winter in Minnesota? For some people, those commonly referred to as "snowbirds," the answer is…leaving it to go live somewhere else. Podcast host Bob Edholm launches the second episode of his “Hangin’ Out with Bob” podcast series with Tom Madigan, his snowbird buddy who lives half of the year in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, and the other half in Arizona, the land of two million saguaro cacti. Bob and Tom have known each other since the mid-1970s, when Gerald Ford was President and Minnesota Vikings still played their football games – outdoors – at Metropolitan Stadium. Tom grew up in Waseca, Minnesota. He is a retired civil engineer and currently an adjunct professor with the University of New Mexico, teaching an online engineering project management class. He loves to play golf, both in Minnesota and in Arizona. Have a listen as these longtime buddies share laughs and reminisce about their lives.

Hangin' Out with Bob (and his two brothers, Dave and Tom)

Who doesn’t like to tell a good story, especially when it’s their own? For that matter, who doesn’t like to hear a good story? Podcast host Bob Edholm launches the first episode of “Hangin’ Out with Bob” with his two brothers, Dave and Tom. And the stories they like to tell are worth the listen. All three Edholm brothers grew up in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, a first-ring northern suburb of Minneapolis, which borders it on the south. But talk to anyone who lives or grew up in Columbia Heights, and chances are they’ll refer to their hometown simply as “The Heights.” Have a listen as these “Boomer Brothers,” in their unmistakable Minnesota accents, share their stories about: Growing up in “The Heights” in the 1960s and 1970s. The house where they lived – in a neighborhood that once was a golf course. A few of their favorite things that they saw and did as kids during the Cultural Decade (1960s) and the Me Decade (1970s). The things they’ve done with their lives since then.

Part Two: The "Top Five" Rolling Stones Albums (with Steve Durant)

The Rolling Stones have been rockin’ and rollin’ for over six decades. How have they done it? Well, there’s the musical talent. The Stones have written numerous great songs, from blues to country to rock. They’ve adapted to changing times. The Stones have overcome personal challenges, lineup changes, and evolving musical trends. As a result, the band has created a timeless legacy that continues to resonate across generations. Podcast host Bob Edholm has gotten together with his friend Steve Durant, a talented guitar player in his own right and a huge Rolling Stones fan, to talk about what Steve calls his Top Five Rolling Stones albums: · Beggars Banquet (1968), which marked a return to the band’s blues roots after a period of experimentation, featuring raw, powerful tracks. · Let It Bleed (1969), a transitional album that bridges the gap between the blues-rock of Beggars Banquet and the more experimental sounds of their later work. · Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out! (1970), considered to be one of the greatest live albums ever, capturing the Stones’ high-energy performances during their pivotal 1969 U.S. tour. · Sticky Fingers (1971), a masterpiece of rock and roll music and celebrated for its diverse range of songs, from hard-rocking anthems to country-tinged ballads. · Exile on Main St. (1972), A sprawling, ambitious double album known for its loose, raw sound, incorporating elements of blues, country, and rock. In Part Two of this two-part podcast, Bob and Steve will do “deep dives” on Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. Once you’ve heard Steve’s informed and entertaining thoughts on these Top Five Stones albums, you’ll want to listen—and listen again—to these classic works for yourself!
