The New Testament uses the Greek word oikonomos for a steward or household manager. A steward may carry significant authority, oversee resources, and make important decisions—but never becomes the owner.

That distinction matters in the Church.

Pastors, elders, ministry leaders, volunteers, and members are entrusted with real responsibility. We are called to teach, lead, protect, serve, give, and care for one another. But the Church, the mission, and the people never become ours.

They belong to Jesus.
