Morning Devotional: Let God Carry It
“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” — Psalm 55:22
Today’s Reflection
Before you take on the responsibilities of this day, take a moment to place your burdens in God’s hands. The concern that interrupted your sleep, the decision you have been putting off, the needs you cannot meet on your own—bring them honestly before Him.
Notice the invitation in this verse: “Cast thy burden upon the Lord.” You do not have to make your burden smaller or find the perfect words before you pray. You can come as you are and say, “Lord, this is heavy, and I need Your help.”
Then notice the promise: “He shall sustain thee.” We may want God to change our circumstances immediately, but we can also ask Him for strength while we wait. His sustaining care may meet us in the courage to have a difficult conversation, the patience to continue our work, or the willingness to receive help.
The final words invite us to trust God for steadiness. A difficult morning does not have to determine the direction of our whole day. We can feel the weight of a situation without allowing that weight to govern every thought and action.
Today, let surrender be more than a moment in prayer. When worry returns, pause and entrust the burden to God again. Take the next responsible step, but do not confuse responsibility with the need to control every outcome.
Put It Into Practice
Before beginning your day, name one burden in prayer. Then identify one faithful action you can take concerning it—and entrust the outcome to God.
Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that I do not have to hide my concerns from You. This morning, I bring You the burdens that weigh on my heart—the ones I can explain and the ones I struggle to put into words.
Help me surrender what I cannot control and faithfully attend to what You have placed before me. Give me wisdom for my decisions, patience in my waiting, and courage for my next step.
When anxiety rises, remind me to turn toward You rather than carry everything alone. Sustain me throughout this day, and help me remain grounded in Your love.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Today’s affirmation: “I will bring my burdens to the Lord and trust Him to sustain me, one step at a time.”
