Imagine getting the chance to play with Ray Charles, and then the first thing he says about your playing is "3rd trombone too Godamn loud!" -- Despite Mike's "confident" bone playing on his first gig with Ray, his time in Ray's band lasted two years, and included playing trombone AND bass. Mike then spent more than 20 years in NYC playing on Broadway and playing for legendary Jazz artists like Fred Hirsch, Maria Schneider, and John Hollenbeck. Mike's career reminds us that it doesn't matter where you're from (Mike hails from Fargo, North Dakota), you can make a legendary career from anywhere. ------------------------------ Download Gig Boss app: https://linktr.ee/gigboss Join the Gig Boss Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/gigboss Bumper Music: Sunshine is Out by Adam Meckler https://open.spotify.com/track/1u12flYbzE4jxD1cwG5pGT?si=5228a5324e474da9 ----------------------------- Interested in hearing music made by our awesome guests? From host Adam Meckler: "As BB King once sang, "the thrill is gone" - I know the feeling. In this episode, I discuss 6 things I do to keep the fire lit. Each career in music is as unique as each person in the field, but we will all experience highs and lows. The key is to stay in the game. I find myself saying this to students frequently: "Whoever stays in the game the longest wins." Like a kid harping "nah nah nah nah boo boo" in that minor third interval, whoever stays in the game the longest implies that there are winners and losers in this thing. And there are. But not in the sports kind of way. Staying in the game means you stay active on the scene, you continue to put out work, you continue to seek greatness through practice and self evaluation. Staying in the game allows your contemporaries time to build their own careers, providing you future opportunities for collaboration. Staying in the game is the hard part. Practicing is fun when the fire is lit! So this begs the question: How do I keep the fire lit? How do I fall in love with music again?" ________ Download Gig Boss app: https://linktr.ee/gigboss Join the Gig Boss Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/gigboss Bumper Music: Sunshine is Out by Adam Meckler https://open.spotify.com/track/1u12flYbzE4jxD1cwG5pGT?si=5228a5324e474da9 ------------------------------ Interested in hearing music made by our awesome guests?
