A Flourishing Church - All of Life is All for Jesus

How do you measure if God is genuinely at work in a local church? Is it attendance and budgets, or is it something invisible happening in the hearts of its people? Pastor Keith McMillan explores Colossians 1:24–2:5, examining Paul's deep pastoral labor for the Colossian believers. Rather than measuring a church by external success metrics, Paul reveals what a truly flourishing church looks like from the inside out: Making Christ Known Together: Proclaiming the Gospel mystery that through Jesus, people from every tribe, tongue, and nation are welcomed into God's family—embodying Christ in y'all, the hope of glory. Growing Together: Engaging in both loving warning (pointing out harmful paths) and positive teaching so that everyone moves toward spiritual maturity—a maturity marked by encouraged hearts, deep relational unity ("knit together in love"), and full assurance of salvation in Christ. Standing Firm Together: Living out collective "military formation" where believers stand side-by-side to protect one another from plausible, deceptive cultural arguments. Spiritual drift happens in isolation, but true flourishing happens when we choose to be present, be known, and stand firm together in Christ. Key Quote: "The greatest thing we have to offer our city is not an impressive building or a collection of programs—it is Christ in y'all, the hope of glory."

Stable & Steadfast - All of Life is All for Jesus

Where do you turn for hope when your circumstances feel completely out of control? In this message, Lead Pastor Keith McMillan shares candidly out of a week spent sitting in the ICU during a family medical emergency. While we often try to pretend we have everything buttoned up, life's storms quickly expose that we are not in control. Through Colossians 1:15–23, Pastor Keith points us to the ultimate anchor for the human soul: Jesus is the Lord of Creation: As the image of the invisible God, Jesus holds all things together—distant galaxies, optic nerves, and our personal lives—so we don't have to carry that burden. Jesus is the Lord of the New Creation: We currently live in the "overlap of the ages" where sin and suffering still exist, but Jesus' resurrection guarantees that a new world is coming where every broken thing will be made right. Jesus is the Lord of You: Christ brought this cosmic reconciliation down to a personal level, dying on the cross to make us holy, blameless, and secure. When life gets unstable, our hope doesn't depend on the strength of our grip; it rests securely on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. Key Quote: "Jesus is holding all things together so you don't have to. You cannot control the storm, but you can know where you're standing. Build your life upon the Rock."

The Gospel Is Alive

When you think of the Gospel, do you view it as a one-time event that saves you, or as a daily truth that transforms how you live? In this message at Garden City Church, guest speaker Pastor Matt shares from Galatians 5 about the trap of living in our own strength. Most believers tend to swing back and forth between two extremes: Religious Living: Trying to perfect ourselves through human effort, strict systems of morality, and rule-following, which leads to self-righteous pride or deep exhaustion. Reckless Living: Making excuses for sin, indulging fleshly desires, and living with hypocrisy. Paul presents a completely different way to live: walking by the Spirit. When we yield to the Holy Spirit, God doesn't just stop us from acting on sinful desires—He transforms our hearts so we no longer even want those things. True spiritual maturity isn't moving from dependence to independence; it's learning to live in moment-by-moment, complete dependence on Jesus. Key Quote: "The most mature Christians are not the ones who can stand on their own two feet. They are the ones who know their need, who have a deeply dependent relationship with the Lord."

The Gospel Takes Root - All of Life is All for Jesus

Pastor Keith MacMillan begins our new series through Colossians, All of Life Is All for Jesus. In Colossians 1:1–14, Paul shows us how to respond when spiritual growth feels small: moving from discouragement to gratitude, from complacency to prayer, and from captives to citizens in the kingdom of Jesus. The gospel has taken root among us, but God is not finished growing us.

Sobriety - Glimpses

Sunday Sermon August 30th, 2026 If you truly belong to Jesus, why do you still struggle with the things you hate? In this final installment of the "Glimpses: A Vision for Flourishing" series, we explore Romans 7:14–25 and 8:1–2 to unpack the realities of human pain, addiction, and spiritual struggle. Living in a broken world creates deep, legitimate human desires—for comfort, acceptance, intimacy, and relief. When those desires go unmet, we are easily lured by counterfeit saviors that promise quick comfort but ultimately leave us empty. Rather than offering quick fixes or simple behavior modification, Pastor Zach walks through the Gospel-centered path to genuine freedom: God Accepts You First: You don't clean up your life to earn God's acceptance; God accepts you in Christ, which gives you the power to change. Repentance (Metanoia): True repentance isn't just wallowing in guilt over past mistakes—it is a complete reorientation of the mind (metanoia), turning away from counterfeit gods to receive real healing from Jesus. A New Identity: Your struggle or addiction is part of your story, but it is not your identity. Through Christ, you are declared a fully accepted, loved child of God with "no condemnation" hanging over your head. Pastor Zach also highlights the vital role of Christian community and learning how to process pain and grief while remaining connected to God. Key Quote: "Christian life is not trying to become someone God can love. Because Jesus died for you, you become the person He has already declared you to be: forgiven, loved, and free from condemnation." Scripture References: Romans 7:14-25

Generosity - Glimpses

Sunday Sermon August 23rd, 2026 What if the things you are holding onto for security are actually keeping you from the generous life God created you for? In part four of the "Glimpses: A Vision for Flourishing" series, We address our culture's deep-seated anxieties surrounding money, wealth, and security. Using Jesus’ teachings in Luke 12, Pastor Keith exposes how materialism convinces us that our protection depends on building bigger barns, keeping us locked in a tower of self-reliance. In this episode, we explore three crucial paradigm shifts in how we view our finances: Moving from Preparing to Participating: Why waiting until we have "enough" to become generous is a trap, and how planning generosity allows us to participate in God's life today. Moving from Acquiring to Receiving: Replacing financial anxiety with the truth that our Heavenly Father already knows our needs and delights to give us His Kingdom. Moving from Owning to Stewarding: Shifting away from a closed-fist "mine" mentality to recognizing that 100% of our time, talent, and treasure belongs to God and is available for His Kingdom. Key Quote: "Where your treasure goes, your heart will follow. What we do with what God has given us doesn't just reveal what we love—it shapes what we love." Scripture References: Luke 12:13–34

Sexual Ethics - Glimpses

Sunday Sermon August 16th, 2026 How do we recover the creational goodness of sex without ignoring its immense power to both give life and cause pain? One of the most culturally charged topics of our day. While our modern culture frames sexual desire as a basic physical appetite to be satisfied (like hunger or thirst), the Scriptures tell a far bigger and more beautiful story: Sex is Union: It is not consumption or mere biology; it involves the whole, embodied person. When a believer joins their body in sex, they bring a body that is already a member of Christ and a temple of the Holy Spirit. Sex is Covenant: Because sex speaks the language of "one flesh" union, it requires a relationship big enough to bear its weight. The biblical pattern places this union within the covenant of marriage—a binding, self-giving promise that sustains love through every season. Sex is Cosmic: In Ephesians 5, Paul reveals that human marriage was designed from the beginning as a mega-mystery—a signpost pointing ahead to the ultimate union between Christ and His Church. Whether you are married, single, divorced, experiencing same-sex attraction, or carrying sexual scars, this message offers a grounded hope: earthly desires are signposts, but Jesus Himself is our ultimate destination. Key Quote: "Sex is so much more meaningful than our culture makes it, and at the very same time, it's so much less ultimate. Sex doesn't finally satisfy the deepest longings underneath our desires—our desires are pointing us to Christ." Scripture References: Genesis 2:21-25

The Poor & Overlooked - Glimpses

Sunday Sermon August 9th, 2026 Every guest list answers a fundamental question: Who belongs at the table? In week two of the "Glimpses: A Vision for Flourishing" series, Pastor Keith McMillan preaches through Luke 14:12–14, examining how Jesus confronts society's small vision of community. While the world naturally builds guest lists around status, comfort, and mutual benefit, Jesus insists that the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind belong at His table. Outlined are three major paradigm shifts Jesus calls us to make: From Utility to Dignity: Rejecting our culture's lie that human worth is tied to productivity, and re-anchoring every person's value in the Imago Dei (Image of God). From Debate to Hospitality: Moving away from political or ideological debates about poverty and pulling up a chair to build real relationships. From Half-Truths to a Full Gospel: Avoiding both an "Armless Gospel" (which preaches spiritual truth while ignoring physical needs) and a "Heartless Gospel" (which seeks social reform while ignoring human sin and the Cross). Key Quote: Every time we welcome someone that the world overlooks, every time we choose hospitality over distance, every time we proclaim Christ and embody His love, we are telling the truth about who God is and what His world is moving toward." Scripture References: Luke 14:12–14

Busyness & Hurry - Glimpses

Sunday Sermon August 2nd, 2026 Do you find yourself constantly answering "I've been so busy!" whenever someone asks how you're doing? Modern society has conditioned us to believe that a full calendar equals an important life. But behind the non-stop hustle, many of us are spiritually and emotionally exhausted. Pastor Zack Park launches the new series, "Glimpses: A Vision for Flourishing," by taking a deep dive into Genesis 2:1–3. Exploring the theology of 18th/19th-century Dutch theologian Herman Bavinck, Pastor Zack breaks down three core truths about rest and busyness: We Were Created for Rest: True rest is not merely a vacation, retirement, or self-care day—it is relational communion with God. In the creation narrative, human existence begins not with work, but on the Sabbath. We Have Become Restless: Busyness functions as an idol of control and disordered love, tricking us into thinking our worth depends on what we accomplish rather than what God has accomplished. Christ Restores Us to True Rest: In Matthew 11:28, Jesus doesn't just teach about rest; He offers Himself as our rest. When our identity is secured in His finished work on the cross, we are freed from trying to be our own saviors—ironically freeing us to work and serve harder with true joy and peace. Key Takeaway: "Sabbath is not God's reward for people who have worked hard enough. It is God's declaration that you are more than what you produce." Teach us to Pray

Sunday Sermon July 26th, 2026 Have you ever felt like your prayers were forced, stale, or easily distracted? You aren't alone. In Luke chapter 11, the disciples—who grew up around religious traditions—observed Jesus praying and asked, "Lord, teach us to pray". Jesus met them with patience, offering a clear pattern to center their hearts on God. Pastor Keith McMillan breaks down the ACTS prayer model (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) as a practical tool for daily life. Thinking of prayer structure not as a rigid formula, but as a "trellis" that supports a living vine, this guided sermon includes built-in quiet moments for listeners to actively practice each movement: Adoration (A): Shifting the focus entirely to God’s character and worth. Confession (C): Bringing both sins of omission (what we left undone) and commission (what we shouldn't have done) to the Father who promises cleansing grace. Thanksgiving (T): Resisting our culture's constant dissatisfaction by offering specific gratitude for God's provisions. Supplication (S): Entrusting our deepest personal needs and burdens for others to the God who hears us. Key Takeaway: "Prayer is not an attempt to convince a distant deity to care about us. Prayer is the privilege of children who have been brought near to God through Jesus Christ." If this message encouraged you, please consider subscribing and sharing it with a friend!
