8. Not your Average New Years Resolutions: a refreshing and HOPE-filled approach to our annual goal-setting fiasco

You know the drill. By the time December 29 rolls around, most of us are stuffed to the brim with Christmas cookies and a corresponding plate of self-loathing. We're ready to turn a corner with LOTS of ideas for how we can improve. But we all know the story. A few months (weeks? days?) go by and we're right back where we were. We're missing something. I'll give you a hint - IDENTITY. In this episode, we unpack a fresh approach to New Year's goals that aligns us with who we are and what we value! This approach takes the pressure OFF of the outcomes and center our focus on who we're being. The result? More confidence. Less self-loathing. And more actually meeting our goals! You won't want to miss this episode. We get REAL about our own failed goal-setting. There are a lot of laughs mingled with our painfully honest conversation. Then Faith deals out the New Year's practice she uses and shares with her clients and why it's SO MUCH BETTER than what we usually do every January. Grab your friends and listen in! In this episode, we talk about everyone's favorite word: boundaries! We talk about why it can be so challenging for those of us who work in social services to say no but how we have to if we're going to cultivate the other aspects of our lives that matter to us. 4. How to tell if you have compassion fatigue or burnout and how you can recover

Compassion fatigue and burnout are two incredibly common experiences for anyone who takes care of others. In this episode, we look at how the brain's intention to keep us safe can lead us to experience emotions and symptoms that can make our jobs and lives even more difficult. We talk through:the signs of compassion fatigue the difference between compassion fatigue and burnout why social service providers need to be watching and prepared for this what restoration and recovery from compassion fatigue/burnout might look like This episode is sponsored by Holistic Hope, who provides training on trauma informed care and Motivational Interviewing. 3. Unpacking Polyvagal Theory and how you can cultivate felt safety in your body

In this episode, we continue exploring the stress response by unpacking the "polyvagal theory." We talk through the modes of our nervous system: rest and digest, fight or flight, and fawn/freeze. We talk through what's happening on a physiological level, what it feels like to be in these modes, where they might show up in our lives and how our response in one moment have implications far beyond. We then talk through how, with that understanding, we can learn to navigate those moments to stay more aware and conscious of our response so that our lives aren't run in "survival mode."

2. Survival Mode in Social Services: How our stress response impacts our whole lives

In this episode, we dive into our stress response and how living in "survival mode" shows up in our work in social service. Our brains and bodies have this amazing process that takes over in the face of a threat. But that process doesn't just impact that moment - it carries over into how we see the world, and ourselves in it, as we move forward. Understanding this process and learning to recognize it in ourselves is key to helping us navigate our roles in social services.

1. What is trauma and do I have it? (Hint: you probably do!)

In our first episode, we dive into how our brains work, what trauma is and how it shows up in our work and personal lives. We talk about the impact of social service roles in us as providers and what we can all do to help build resiliency while we work in high trauma spaces.

Welcome! We're glad you're here!
